Printing or saving to a network drive doesn't work when no user is logged in
Modified on Fri, 2 Oct at 3:00 PM
Symptoms
You use Automatic Email Manager to print or save emails and attachments to a network location, such as a shared printer or a path like \\192.168.2.100\foldername\.
- It works while the application is open in your Windows session.
- It stops working after you log off, when Automatic Email Manager runs as a Windows service.
Cause
This is a Windows security behavior, not a bug in Automatic Email Manager. By default, a Windows service runs under a system account that has no access to network drives or user printers. Those resources are tied to a user session.
Solution
Run the Automatic Email Manager service under a Windows user account that has access to the network folder or printer.
- Press Win + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Find the Automatic Email Manager service, right-click it, and select Properties.
- Open the Log On tab.
- Select This account, then enter the user name and password of an account with access to the network folder or printer.
- Click OK.
- Right-click the service and select Restart.
