Can't connect to my AOL mailbox
Modified on Fri, 2 Oct at 3:16 PM
Symptoms
Automatic Email Manager says your user name or password is incorrect, even though you entered them correctly.
Cause
AOL blocks third-party applications from signing in with your regular password. You must create an app password in your AOL account and use it in Automatic Email Manager instead.
Solution
Step 1: Generate an app password in AOL
- Sign in to your AOL account and open the Account security page.
- Select Generate app password (or Generate and manage app passwords).
- Select Other app, enter a name such as
Automatic Email Manager, then click Generate. - Copy the password shown by AOL.

Step 2: Use it in Automatic Email Manager
- Edit your AOL account.
- In the Password field, paste the app password instead of your regular AOL password.
- Click Test connection.
Server settings (if needed)
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Server | imap.aol.com |
| Port | 993 |
| Secure connection (SSL) | Enabled |
| User name | Your full AOL email address |
Tip: If you change your AOL password, your app passwords may stop working. Generate a new one if the connection fails again.
