Public folders are not available for Microsoft 365 or Exchange accounts
Modified on Fri, 2 Oct at 3:43 PM
Symptoms
You connect a Microsoft 365 (Office 365) or Exchange account with Sign in with Microsoft (modern authentication), but your public folders are not listed when you select the folder to monitor.
Cause
Public folders are not supported by Microsoft Graph, the API that Automatic Email Manager uses with modern authentication. Microsoft considers public folders a legacy feature and recommends moving away from them. Microsoft is also retiring Basic authentication and EWS, the only way to reach public folders. This is a Microsoft limitation, not a bug in Automatic Email Manager.
Recommended alternative: use a shared mailbox
A shared mailbox lets several users access the same mailbox, and it works with modern authentication.
- Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to create a shared mailbox, and to move or forward the emails you want to process to it.
- In Automatic Email Manager, add or edit your Microsoft 365 account.
- In the login mailbox field, enter the address of the shared mailbox.
- Select the Folder to monitor, then save.
Tip: Your own account must have permission on the shared mailbox.
